Residential Care Ministry

What does this mean?  The former name might have been nursing home.   This is the ministry to our members who are homebound, in assisted living facilities and other extended care facilities.  New members of the ministry start out by accompanying an experienced member in order to learn from him or her.  As the new member becomes comfortable he or she takes on the ministry.  The time spent Visiting and bringing communion to these members of our Catholic Faith is rewarded a thousand times over and again.  You need not be a current Eucharistic Minister as you can be commissioned to bring communion specifically for this ministry.   (you must meet the qualifications for being a Eucharistic Minister of being baptized, confirmed, having made your first communion and if married being in a valid Catholic Marriage)

Those interested in this ministry can be involved in any one or more of these ways:

1.  Homebound:  On Friday after Mass Fr. Ian and these ministers go out to visit members of our parish who are homebound.  Each of us visit 3 - 4 households.  Typically you serve twice a month.

2.  Settlers House:  On Wednesday morning, we offer a prayer service with Communion.  Tim Kempel coordinates this service.  After the service, communion is taken to residents at Settlers House who did not attend the prayer service.

3.  Brentwood:  On Wednesday Afternoon (1:30) we offer a prayer service with Communion.  Fr. Ian coordinates this service.  After the service, communion is taken to residents in the Memory care unit.

4.  Golden Living (Fountain View and Countryside)  Typically on Thursday, ministers visit multiple residents at one of these two facilities as scheduled.  (most are scheduled twice a month)

Those who are interested can choose how many much time they can commit to this ministry.  Some, such as Homebound, are tied to a particular day and time frame, while others can be more flexible.

Again, those who are visited are appreciative beyond belief and you receive back more than is given.
